I think God would have us to not fuss over a number and rather go read through the Bible find what you see as a verse that would help you fight against fear and write it down. There is a newer book out from around 2010 that I have not read but it is titled Fearful to Fearless and contains 400 passages that direct us not to fear. Sure enough it wasn’t true. Any count you do will be dependant on your translation, your language and your interpretation of which verses you count as talking about not fearing. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace. This is a fact. While it would have been nice to have exactly 365 verses with those exact words, ‘be not afraid’, I will use your list as a jumping off point to find my own list of encouraging verses so I have my own unique one for encouragement. I don’t know if you still read these comments, but I am reading a biography of Richard Wurmbrand, founder of Voice of the Martyrs, and he says that in preparation for the inevidable persecution he knew he was going to face under the Communists, he memorized a verse on fear for each day of the year including leap year. We should not simply accept as fact every nice thing we are told about the Bible because it sounds good – but should verify the accuracy before we pass on information.
